Sweet sister,
Whether you are longing for a baby, recently saw that glorious positive test, or are preparing for birth right now—you need to hear this first:
You were intentionally, beautifully, and powerfully created by God to do this.
Motherhood, in all its stages, is not an accident, a medical event, or a crisis of inconvenience. It is holy ground. From the moment new life is invited into your womb, you and God become co-creators of something eternal.
Yet in our modern world, many women enter pregnancy excited about the cute clothes, milestone cards, Instagram-worthy nurseries, and gender reveals… but feel terrified, unprepared, or unsure about birth itself.
That is not a failure—it is a symptom of a culture that has forgotten the truth:
Birth is not something to fear. Birth is something to prepare for.
And preparation changes everything.
Why Preparation Matters — and Why It Changes Birth
During a recent conversation with Mama Vicki—my dear friend, labor & delivery nurse, IBCLC breast-feeding expert, and childbirth educator—she shared that many women don’t prepare for the actual birth process because they don’t know what to expect or where to learn . Instead, they often focus on the external details while unknowingly neglecting the inner, physical, emotional, and spiritual preparation needed for labor.
She said something that struck me deeply:
Most women associate labor with pain, instead of labor with work. She explained that birth is not punishment—it's effort. It is the body doing exactly what God designed it to do. Yes, there may be discomfort, but discomfort is not disaster. Intensity is not injury. Work is not failure .
And when we view labor as work—not torture—something shifts inside us.
Because when we hear pain, we brace ourselves. But when we hear work, we prepare ourselves.
That difference holds the power to transform the entire birth experience.
Birth is Like a Marathon — Not a Medical Mystery
When Mama Vicki compared birth to a marathon, everything clicked for me. No one wakes up and runs 26 miles with zero training . They learn:
Birth is no different.
You wouldn’t walk up to a starting line with no training, no coach, no plan, no equipment, and hope for the best.Yet many first-time moms approach labor exactly that way—and then blame themselves rather than the lack of preparation.
Sister, hear this with love: Your body is not the problem. Lack of education, mentorship, and support is.
Confidence Comes From Knowing What is Normal
So many women go into labor thinking something is wrong simply because they didn’t know what normal looks like. I myself didn’t know that a lull or pause near the end of labor was normal until my fourth baby . Before that, I assumed my body was stalling or failing when in reality…it was resting, refueling, and preparing.
The same way a runner hydrates, refocuses, and takes strategic pauses, a laboring mother may also shift, slow, or rest.Rest is not regression.Slow is not stuck.Intensity is not emergency.
This is why childbirth education—whether Bradley, Lamaze, hospital classes, midwife preparation, or Mama Vicki’s classes—is invaluable. Not because it gives you control…but because it gives you confidence.
And confidence calms anxiety. And calm helps labor progress. And physiological safety helps birth unfold.
Knowledge Lowers Fear — and Fear Affects Birth
We cannot ignore the spiritual, emotional, and biological truth:Fear works against the birthing body.
God designed the female body to open, expand, and release during labor. Fear triggers the opposite: tightening, closing, panicking, and resisting. That is why familiarity matters: seeing the room, meeting your team, knowing procedures, understanding your options, and practicing breathing all reduce fear and increase trust .
You deserve to birth knowing:✔ what choices you have✔ what sensations are normal✔ how your husband can support you✔ how to breathe and move✔ when to rest✔ how to advocate✔ how to invite God into every moment
Birth is not something done to you.Birth is something you and your baby do together.
Your Husband’s Role Matters
One of the most beautiful surprises I experienced was watching how childbirth education empowered my husband. When he understood birth stages, normal patterns, and what to expect, he became confident, calm, and supportive—rather than scared and helpless .
Women are not meant to birth alone.Even Mary had Joseph.
Community: The Missing Piece in Modern Birth Culture
Modern culture has exchanged the red tent, the village, and the sisterhood of shared wisdom… for isolated hospital rooms and internet searches.
We used to see birth. We used to learn birth. We used to witness birth. We used to celebrate birth.
Today, many women have never held a newborn, heard a woman labor, or watched a birth unfold naturally. That loss matters—and it is one reason anxiety around birth is so high .
Education + community + support = confidence.
You Were Built to Birth & Built to Nourish
Birth preparation is not only about labor. It flows directly into early motherhood and feeding your baby. Breastfeeding support should start during pregnancy, not postpartum tears at 2 a.m.
The fourth trimester deserves planning, just like a wedding or sacrament.
The Spiritual Truth: God Designed You for This
Eve was not cursed with the inability to withstand birth—she was strengthened with capacity.Jesus Himself entered the world through a woman.God entrusted women with the sacred work of making, nurturing, and delivering His children into the world.
That is not weakness. That is warriorhood woven into womanhood.
You are not fragile. You are not incapable. You are not alone.
You. Are. Chosen.
